The performer side of me

 A native of Korea, I am an active solo violin player both in Canada and Europe. Winning the 2nd Prize in 2007 Padova International competition, I was a member of Jenaer philharmonie orchestra in Jena, Germany and was the concertmaster of the Vancouver Metropolitan Orchestra for 10 years.

 I have began musical training with violin at age of six with Prof. J.K. Song in Korea. After my immigration to Canada, I furthered my studies on the violin with Mr. Arthur Ludwig Polson. In Canada, I was a top prize winner in many musical competitions such as the ’96 North American Star Quest.

 In the student years in Germany, I have earned bachelor’s degree in music from the Musik Hochschule Felix Mendelssohn Bartholy in Leipzig and studied violin with Prof. Ulrich Klupsch. Throughout the years in Musik Hochschule, I was appointed as a concertmaster under the baton of legendary conductors such as Kurt Masur and Fabio Luisi.

 In the season 2001, I have been giving concerts throughout Europe, including Italy, Germany, Hungary, Russia and Switzerland with the chamber orchestra “l’seidici” as of 1st violin tutti/solo player. With the Mendelssohn haus debut in Leipzig, Germany in 2004, I was appointed as concertmaster of the music school and associate concertmaster of ARS chamber orchestra of Leipzig. During the Leipzig period, I have also been working with worldly renowned orchestras such as “Gewandhaus Orchester zur Leipzig”.

 In the year 2008, I have received both in performance and teaching degree in Musik Hochschule Leipzig and was assigned as an assistant Professorship from my teacher Prof. Ulrich Klupsch.

With the graduation, I have auditioned and accepted for both Orchestra Academy position in Musikhochschule “Franz Liszt” Weimar and also for Konzertexamen degree in Musikhochschule “Carl-Maria Webber” Dresden. In the last season, I was selected in the Konzertexamen ensemble in Dresden Musikhochschule and appointed for a concertmaster. In Dresden Musikhochschule, I have studied with a Gramophone award winner Professor John Holloway and graduated with top honors.

 Since my return to Canada in 2009, I gave numerous solo concerts with Orchestras in Vancouver such as West Coast Symphony, New Westminster Symphony, Vancouver Philharmonic, Harmonia chamber orchestra and Vancouver Metropolitan Orchestra performing;

- Vivaldi's four seasons

The teacher side of me

My teaching career began with becoming an assistant teacher of my professor Urlich Klupsch in Leipzig. I was able to teach many 1st year music students and also was able to learn teaching method under the Professor Klaus Hertel with his Pedagogic class.

 After returning to Canada in 2009, I have opened a violin studio of my own in Vancouver. I have focused to give personalized and comprehensive approach to violin education. From mastering the fundamentals to basic techniques to exploring the rich repertoire of classical violin music of all the ages and skills. Currently my students are from 5 years old to 73 years old and some are total beginner yet some are local, national and international competition winners including Kiwanis, VPO concerto Competition, VYSO Concerto competition, CMC competition, and Leonid Kogan competition.

 Most of my students are asked to join the youth orchestra in order to explore the excitement and joyful moment of making music together. I believe the violin is not a complete instrument of its own, but a part of beautiful harmony when played together with other instruments of many ranges.

I teach currently in Vancouver, and Burnaby home studio.
